Key features

Cutting edge electro mechanical actuation solutions for primary flight control systems
Solutions for secondary flight control systems includes distributed architectures
All products are based on a modularized product platform allowing cost-efficient customization of each configuration
Early adopters of EMA for primary and secondary flight control systems
We deliver systems to fixed wing aircraft, helicopters and UAVs

Flight Control Systems

With our capabilities we can provide the complete system from cockpit controls through safety-critical control computers and motor control electronics to electromechanical actuators. We can also supply software to the customer desired level, from Board Support Package (BSP) through Boot Code, Device Drivers, Built-In-Test, Operating Systems to Application Software. Our offering includes both integrated and distributed systems. Besides primary Flight Control, our target applications within secondary flight controls are slat (leading edge), flap (trailing edge), trim and spoiler/airbrake systems. All products are based on a modularized product platform allowing cost-efficient customization of each configuration.

Key Elements

  • Safety Critical System Solutions
  • Computers and Motor Controllers
  • Rotary and Linier E.M.Actuators
  • Brakes and Torque limiters

Example of Flight Control Systems program:

Primary Flight Control for fixed wing aircraft

Saab has proven expertise in developing real time safety-critical control computers for fixed wing flight control and provides in-house development of both HW and SW (including application SW). Our computer offering is based on a common module product platform allowing for cost-efficient customization.

Primary Flight Electromechanical Actuation

Saab's primary actuator system is developed as a modular system with adaptation of a wide range of existing components.

The system is scalable and have the capability to also serve the secondary features on the aircraft.

Primary Flight Control Computers

Saab offers complete size and weight efficient primary flight control systems, ranging from safety critical real time flight control computers through sensors and control electronics to electromechanical actuators. We have experience from both fixed wing and rotary wing UAVs.

Primary Flight Control for helicopters

Saab offers primary flight control systems, among things, specifically tailored for a helicopter’s challenging environmental requirements and high demands for weight-efficiency. Our computer offering is based on a common module product platform allowing for cost-efficient customization.

High Lift Systems

Saab is an experienced supplier of High Lift systems and is present on both military and commercial aircraft. We offer electromechanically based High Lift systems of both centrally driven and distributed architectures, and work with both slats (leading edge) and flaps (trailing edge) systems.

We can deliver complete systems from the cockpit lever to the flap/slat surface. Through substantial and sustained internal R&D, as well as through participation in international R&D-programs, we ensure that our offering stays world class.

Presentation of Flight Control Systems

Mattias Johansson, chief engineer at Saab, Avionics Systems presents our Flight Control Systems. From our Civil Aviation Webinar November 20th.

Did you know...

Qantas just set a new world record for longest flight New York-Sydney with a Boeing 787 aircraft. This was made possible partly through Avionics Systems electric flap system which improves the aerodynamics during flight through autonomously optimized trailing edge deflection which in turn reduces fuel burn.
