Senior Designer/Drafter

Job Description:

Saab Inc., Autonomous and Undersea Systems division is seeking innovative and experienced Designer/Drafter to work with the Engineering team on CAD models, assemblies, and drawings for autonomous Unmanned Surface/Underwater Vehicles (AUSVs/AUVs) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). This position will sit in our Quincy, MA facility.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work in CAD tools (SolidWorks & SolidEdge) with 3D models as parts, components, and/or assemblies

  • Manage data using PDM and follow processes related to configuration management

  • Create and/or manage drawing templates and guidelines related to projects

  • Implement ANSI drawing standards

  • Create/modify mechanical 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks & SolidEdge

  • Knowledge of manufacturability and product configuration methods 

  • Provide support to a project or own a component of a project

  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions

  • Interact with senior internal and external personnel

  • Follow established procedures on routine work; requires instruction only on new assignments

  • Work with moderate guidance on projects
     

Compensation Range: $74,000-$90,600

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

Minimum candidate requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • 5+ years of relevant experience

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks & SolidEdge essential

  • Experience with PDM systems (SolidWorks)

  • Experience with ASME Y14.5 GD&T

  • Experience with tolerance stackup assessment

  • Experience in managing and tracking BOMs and drawing trees

  • Experience with tracking weight and center of gravity techniques.

  • Experience incorporating DFMA principals into design

  • Designing new components and systems, and creating mechanical and electrical part drawings

  • Reviewing work to ensure it meets CAD and drafting standards

  • Adopting and implementing design and CAD standards

  • Converting CAD data into formats like iges, dxf, stp, and pdf

  • Creating and updating drawing templates and guidelines

  • Coordinating with other disciplines

  • Creating engineering change proposals

 

Desired candidate requirements:

  • Associate’s degree, technical/business school, or equivalent 

  • 7+ years of relevant experience 

  • Experience may include advanced support skills and extensive knowledge of tools, software and other technologies
