Your role

Background

We produce a large amount of technical information at our department. The users of the technical information are technicians, pilots and others who are maintaining and operating the Gripen aircraft. We use international standards in the production, ASD/AIA S1000D for the structure of the content and Simplified Technical English for the language.

The use of artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly important in many businesses. Our goal is to understand how much use we can have from AI in the production of our technical information. This master thesis is a step towards this goal.

Description of the master thesis

A master thesis presented in the summer of 2024 explored how Large Language Models (LLMs) could assist in producing technical documentation at Saab. It included an implementation of AI models, trained on summarized instructions, which was then transformed into more complete texts. A goal was also to comply with the requirements defined in the standard ASD-STE100, Simplified Technical English.

You find the result of the master thesis here: https://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-205071.

We would like to use the results from that master thesis and explore how extended goals can be achieved.  The work involves both the LLMs suggested by the previous work and the new "internal Chat-GTP" tool at Saab.
