Business Development Manager, Canada

Your Role:
Saab Canada, Inc. is seeking a Business Development Manager to manage opportunities and business development for Canadian defence and security programs. Additionally, this position will provide oversight and manage the identification, development and execution of business development and capture plans for business opportunities and investments to meet Saab’s long term Order Intake targets in Canada. As the Business Development Manager you will be supporting the Director of Business Development and be closely integrated with the Industrial and Technological Benefits and Partnerships Manager, other business development team members, operations and program teams in Canada.
You will be the primary interface for, and collaborator with, sales and marketing team members in Saab’s Business Areas and you will also liaise directly with key business development personnel based in Sweden.
This is an exciting and demanding role and a key position in Saab Canada’s growth journey.
Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Manages and oversees all business development related activities from the opportunity identification phase through the various phases of procurement including responding to customer information needs through to proposal development and execution of a winning bid.
- Identifying profitable business opportunities through the development of relationships, analysis of customer plans and procurement programs.
- Winning of business in Canada and achievement of sales targets through the following types of activities;
- Conducting extensive market research;
- Creating actionable business strategies;
- Nurturing relationships with clients;
- Analysing market trends;
- Tracking business performance;
- Allocating and managing the company's resources, and
- Conducting competitive analysis reviews to establish Unique Selling Propositions and winning strategies.
- Working with the ITB & VP manager to develop winning business development plans and partnership strategies.
- Provide recommendations and assessments of strategic growth plans to achieve Saab’s Canadian growth strategy in the market.
- To develop, grow and manage business opportunities, expand relationships and partnering strategies by participating in events and monitoring Canada’s defence industry structure in order to further Saab’s growth strategy in the Canadian defence market.
- To develop and maintain a good working relationships and knowledge of Canadian procurement agencies and individuals, including the Department of National Defence (DND), Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), Ministry of Industry Science and Economic Development (ISED) and other relevant government and industry stakeholders.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge of the Canadian Defence Policy and Procurement Processes and advise how best to apply and implement capture strategies and business development programs in line with Canadian processes.
- Work closely with the business development team to identify and build relationships with co-operative industrial partners to strengthen Saab’s market position with existing or new joint offers
- Support and lead in partnership with Business Unit sales teams the development of proposals and request for information responses in order to improve the success rates of key business opportunities.
- Foster relationships and lead cross functional teams with critical internal stakeholders to achieve a cohesive capture strategy in the pursuit of Canadian defence procurements.
- Develop and track all customer opportunities, competitive and stakeholder information in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool.
- Work in alignment with Saab’s policies and directives
- Other tasks within the Country Office as deemed relevant from time to time

Your Skills & Experience:
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or related discipline
- 5+ years’ relevant work experience in a related industry in sales and marketing or business development roles
- Experience with military procurement programs preferred
- Demonstrated experience in working in a global organization, with international reporting responsibilities preferred
Required Skills:
- Good leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across different business areas and group functions
- The ability to compile complex material for presentation in writing and verbally
- Possess a positive and outgoing personality with excellent communication skills, strong business acumen with high personal integrity in business ethics
- Must be willing to travel in Canada and internationally when required
- Willingness to work flexible hours, especially during time sensitive situations
