Acting undetected – the ultimate defence asset

Submarines are unique tools for securing national interests. In a world where any movement or asset is exposed, being able to act undetected has never been more crucial. Submarines play a vital role in a wide range of naval operations and tasks, from peacekeeping to warfare operations, in both offensive and defensive roles. Submarines can perform national missions that no other asset can. To meet diverse, international requirements across a large spectrum of missions, we offer conventional submarines that address two market segments: Oceanic and Expeditionary. The segments are based on a mix of size and technological complexity. By combining a unique range of capabilities, state-of-the-art stealth technology, Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP), high endurance, versatile combat system suite and various weapons, we have created shock-resistant, modular designed submarines for maximum operational flexibility.

Saab submarines are offering a flexible approach, meeting various needs of different navies thanks to modular design. This flexibility is also securing upgrades and modifications, making the submarines future-proof over time. Modules are designed depending on operational and tactical needs. Equipment installations can be easily accessed for maintenance and upgrades at any point in the submarine’s lifecycle.

Oceanic

Throughout our history we have continuously developed our submarines. The leading product in the Oceanic segment is the Blekinge-class submarine, currently in production for the Royal Swedish Navy. Its modular design and production method allows the submarine to accommodate a larger and more versatile suite of weapons, various crew sizes, highly efficient AIP systems and a Multi Mission Portal^tm, significantly increasing the operational scope.

Expeditionary

Submarines in the Expeditionary segment are the largest in the series, designed for much longer missions, greater crew size and increased weapon payload capability. Expeditionary submarines enable long-distance operations, suitable for any navy using forward deployment of their submarines on extended missions.
