The best ship, is a ship at sea

1 min read

Sweden, like many other countries, faces the challenge of having a limited number of naval ships to patrol and guard a long coastline. Each ship and crew must be operated to the limit, whilst national security and defence capabilities must remain strong. This requires careful planning of support and maintenance to ensure the navy can fulfill its task – to keep the oceans open and free.

The contract includes Visby-, Gävle-, Malmö- and Koster- class ships, along with HMS Orion.

VISYT is a support and maintenance concept by Saab Business Area Kockums that offers the Swedish Navy a cost efficient way to keep their ships available and operational. This concept includes Programme Management, Configuration Management, System Support as well as preventive- and immediate maintenance.

The contract between Saab and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, FMV, has been signed for an extended period of 2 years; 2022 and 2023.

"This agreement gives us the possibility to have a cost efficient and long-term perspective on preventive upgrades and support as well as for emergency repairs. We ensure that the navy get powerful ships ready to take on challenges at sea", said Nils Gustafson, Contract Manager VISYT, Saab BA Kockums.
