Saab Receives Order for Seaeye Sabertooth Hybrid AUV/ROV
Defence and security company Saab has received an order from Modus Seabed Intervention Ltd for delivery of Seaeye Sabertooth Hybrid AUV/ROV. Delivery will take place during the first quarter 2016.
This order of Saab Sabertooth from Modus is the first in a planned fleet of Sabertooth vehicles from Saab, which will be available on the market during 2016. The order also includes a collaboration agreement between Saab and MODUS where Modus will provide, among other things, operational input to the future development of the system.
The system will be equipped with extended autonomous endurance and increased thrust for high speed survey in high current environments. A suite of advanced survey sensors including the latest Edgetech 2205 combined triple frequency sidescan sonar, co-located swath bathymetry and sub bottom profiler, HD video/stills cameras, IXBlue Phins3 INS, and RDI workhorse DVL. To manage data acquisition, navigation and processing of sensor data, the software package QINSy from Saab QPS is fully integrated.
“The choice of Seaeye Sabertooth by Modus for a future fleet of hybrid systems confirms that our ground breaking work with the hybrid AUV/ROV technology is now accepted on the market and we can continue to further develop this technology, says Agneta Kammeby, head of Saab business unit Underwater Systems.
“The acquisition of the first Sabertooth vehicle from Saab is the culmination of a 2 year development and evaluation programme and we are delighted to both confirm this order and to also enter into a collaboration agreement. This differentiated dual role technology combined with our innovative operating methodologies will offer a new value proposition to the subsea market”, says Jake Tompkins, Managing Director, Modus Seabed Intervention Ltd.
The Seaeye Sabertooth is a merger of the Double Eagle Sarov and Saab Seaeye technologies, resulting in a hovering hybrid AUV/ROV with deep water capability, long excursion range and a six degrees of freedom control system.
It has all the advanced features of the military hybrid AUV/ROVs, combined with the rugged and proven Saab Seaeye technology. The vehicle is also capable of providing light intervention support and with a depth rating of 3000m it can be deployed for a wide range of subsea tasks.
