Highly mobile and lifesaving surgical unit from Saab
Defence and security company Saab has a new solution for FRC (Forward Resuscitation Capacity ) which is a highly mobile, life-saving, tent-based medical unit with surgical eqipment. FRC facilities rapid responses in providing high quality care so that injuries can be stabilised while patients are awaiting further transport.
The FRC concept has been developed for tough combat conditions and the system is to be primarily used close to the front for stabilising and caring for the wounded. The concept is tent-based and a unit can be set up in less than an hour with advanced medical equipment and capabilities to perform damage control surgery. The concept features high mobility and the unit is light in relation to its capacity. The equipment and packaging have been developed for handling by individual soldiers and an entire unit fits in a vehicle with trailer. The equipment for FRC can also be air-dropped. An FRC unit is self-supporting for at least 24 hours when it comes to water, heating and materials.
"With the help of FRC, a wounded soldier can quickly receive the requisite first aid and damage control surgery when necessary," says Stefan Ryckenberg, Director Land Division at Saab. "FRC units should be staffed by surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurse anaesthetists and theatre nurses to attain optimal results."
The FRC concept will be displayed at Eurosatory 2012 at Saab outdoor area at Stand F171.
