Saab to deliver ruggedized electronics package to BAE Systems Hägglunds SEP platform
In strong competition, Saab Aerotech has signed a contract with BAE Systems Hägglunds to deliver a ruggedized electronic system package for new pre-production SEP vehicles.
The contract includes development and deliveries of ruggedized electronic systems to the SEP (Splitterskyddad Enhets Plattform) vehicle, a tracked and wheeled modular armoured tactical system. The electronics package supports demanding functional requirements from modern Vehicle Information Systems as well as Battle Management Systems.
The electronic systems package includes equipment such as ruggedized computers, displays, network components and digital video system. Saab Aerotech will provide equipment as well as development, engineering and support services to the SEP vehicles.
Eight international companies in the BMS Equipment area were invited by BAE Systems Hägglunds for the SEP RFQ early March this year. Among these, Saab Aerotech was selected.
“This order is yet another affirmation of our capabilities in the vehicle electronics area and further strengthens our capability to win new contracts and reference programs in strong international competition. The SEP vehicle itself has a huge potential on an international market in the future, so this first order from BAE Systems Hägglunds is of strategic importance to Saab and builds on the already successful co-operation between our companies,” says Mats Pettersson, Vice President, Electronic Systems Services division at Saab Aerotech.
In 2006, BAE Systems Hägglunds received a contract from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the development of the SEP vehicles. The development phase includes manufacturing of four vehicles during 2008. Serial production is scheduled to start 2009 for the Swedish program.
“We are pleased with the great interest shown by the suppliers. We welcome Saab Aerotech to our project and know that we have an experienced supplier with excellent references” says Maria Jonsson, Procurement Officer, BAE Systems Hägglunds.
