Saab wins Renewed Contract for Airbus Single Aisle Ailerons
Saab Aerostructures has won a renewed contract with Airbus UK valued at over 60 million US dollars, for the supply of ailerons for wings of the Airbus single aisle aircraft family.
Since 2000, having delivered more than 1000 units as the long-standing single source supplier of these ailerons, Saab has carried out extensive work aimed at reducing product costs through innovative new design and manufacturing processes for these composite ailerons. "We tell the market that we can provide our customer with the best solutions by using our long experience and expertise. I am of course very pleased now when we are successful together with Airbus, achieving such big savings in real life. It shows that we do what we promise to do,” said Pontus Kallén, Senior Vice President and Managing Director at Saab Aerostructures. Saab Aerostructures has developed new state of the art CFRP monolithic technologies which fully support Airbus’ cost down requirements by saving up to 25 per cent on the product costs. With the concept now having reached maturity, introduction of the technology under this latest agreement will reduce the number of parts on the ailerons by over half. Dave Micklewright, Head of COE Wing Procurement and VP Airframe Procurement UK at Airbus said: “Saab undertook this work under our drive for continuous product development, adding value as well as reducing cost. Saab has been innovative and successful in both of these areas and we are very confident and pleased with the result”. Saab is one of the world’s leading high-technology companies, with its main operations focusing on defence, aviation and space. The group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capabilities in systems integration.
