Ericsson Saab Avionics receives series order for color displays in JA 37 Viggen

Ericsson Saab Avionics receives series order for color displays in JA 37 Viggen FMV (The Defence Materiel Administration) has awarded Ericsson Saab Avionics a contract comprising series production of color displays for two squadrons of the JA 37 Viggen. The display replaces the current monochrome tactical display, as part of the Viggen Mod D upgrade program. First delivery is scheduled to 1 April 2000 and delivery will be completed by 1 March 2001. Ericsson Saab Avionics delivered the display system EP-12 for the JA 37 during the years 1976-89 and was also responsible for a major upgrade of the system in 1989-92. The aircraft integration of the display will be made by Saab AB, General Military Programs. The new color display is basically identical with the color display Ericsson Saab Avionics produces for the Gripen fighter, and will be re-used in the Gripen when the JA 37 system is phased-out. First flight with a prototype of the new display took place on March 9. Ericsson Saab Avionics AB is a company jointly owned by Ericsson and Saab (Sweden), and the main supplier of avionics to the Gripen fourth-generation fighter. The company's primary operations are electronic warfare, display, reconnaissance and IFF systems, advanced electronics and mechanics, and electromagnetic technology.
