Former Head of Innovation for NATO joins Saab, Inc.
Saab is pleased to announce Rob Murray as Chief Innovation Officer within the newly established Strategy Office of Saab, Inc.
Reporting to Michael Brasseur, Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, Murray brings more than 25 years of experience spanning innovation, entrepreneurship, and national security.
“Rob’s groundbreaking work in innovation is precisely the caliber of expertise we aim to bring to Saab’s Strategy office,” said Erik Smith, President and CEO of Saab in the U.S. “With Rob, we gain a global thought leader and a multiplier for our capabilities in advanced technologies."
Previously, Murray distinguished himself as NATO’s inaugural Head of Innovation, serving directly on the Secretary General's staff in Brussels. In this capacity, he conceptualized and negotiated both the NATO Defense Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) and the $1 billion NATO Innovation Fund. Furthermore, Murray is credited with crafting the world’s first multilateral Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy that includes internationally agreed principles of responsible use for AI. Beyond his pivotal time at NATO, Murray served as a Professor at Johns Hopkins University and has also spent twelve years as a British army officer, specializing in Surveillance and Reconnaissance.
Murray’s appointment follows the recent acquisitions of CrowdAI and BlueBear in the Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning sector.
