Saab receives order for AT4 from NSPA
In February, Saab has received an order for the anti-armour weapon AT4 from the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). The order value is approximately EUR 63 million (approximately SEK 700 million) and deliveries will take place 2026-2027.
The AT4 family includes several powerful, portable disposable weapons. Each of these systems is optimised for ease of use, regardless of the user's level of experience. The AT4 portfolio can be used to engage armoured vehicles, buildings, soldiers and explosives. Thanks to the identical handling of all weapons, the AT4 family offers maximum versatility and also requires less training. The recoilless anti-tank weapon can be deployed regardless of the environment - even from confined spaces. This means that in the event of a threat, the environment does not dictate the behaviour of the troops. In fact, the disposable AT4 single-use system ensures maximum flexibility.
The AT4 HEAT (High-Explosive Anti-Tank), AT4CS HP (Confined-Space, High Penetration), AT4CS RS (Reduced Sensitivity) and AT4CS ER (Extended Range) are particularly suitable for combating armoured vehicles. These systems have a steel armour penetration of up to 460 millimetres at operating distances of up to 600 metres.
AT4 Family
Combat-proven across the world, AT4 family is one of the most successful anti-armour weapons ever. Lightweight, man-portable and fully disposable weapons, each is optimised for anyone to use. For any experience level, a dismounted soldier simply aims, fires and destroys the target before discarding the empty tube. AT4 is truly characterised by its ease of use and handling. AT4 family is ready for anything, providing the capabilities required for mission success, including night and confined space abilities.
NSPA Procurements
At Saab we have a broad range of products such as ground combat systems, advanced rocket artillery systems, radars and sensors, command and control systems, missiles of different kinds and for a wide range of purposes. Saab of course also produce fighter jets, submarines and surface ships. There are also other companies in Sweden that produces ammunition (small arms and artillery), Infantry Fighting Vehicles (CV-90) and different kind of artillery systems both for land and sea operation. Some of these products are now, after Sweden becoming member of NATO, available through the acquisition system of the alliance NSPA (NATO Support and Procurement Agency).
Strengthening the northern flank
Sweden brings some cutting-edge military capabilities to NATO. The rather large Air Force that Sweden operates will give NATO a powerful capability to ensure the airspace not only over Sweden but also over the Baltics. With the introduction of Gripen E this capability will be even stronger and it will be beneficial for the overall capability to defend and deter in the air domain.
The Swedish Navy gives NATO a very capable submarine force that is designed for the very special environment of the Baltic Sea, this in combination with minehunters, surface ships and the new generation of anti-ship missiles (RBS15 Gungnir) developed by Saab and the German company Diehl will give an operational advantage in the Baltic Sea area.
The use of common platforms and systems by the armed forces of both countries allows for information dominance in the Baltic Sea region, enhancing NATO's overall situational awareness and the security of all countries in this part of Europe. The fact that the Nordic countries are aligned in the same security structure for the first time since the beginning of the 1600th century will create new opportunities both politically and militarily, to strengthen the northern flank.
