Saab Offers Canadian Cyber Resilience Centre
Saab has committed to establishing a new Cyber Security Resilience Centre, an innovation and experience hub that is part of the company’s offer of Gripen aircraft for Canada's Future Fighter Capability Project (FFCP).
In a contribution to Canada’s cyber security strategy, Saab has offered to invest in a dedicated Cyber Centre to be located in Toronto, Ontario. The centre will encourage collaboration and innovation between Swedish and Canadian industry and academia, in addition to increasing Canada’s cyber security operations.
"It has never been more important to invest in protecting Canada’s critical infrastructure from digital threats,” said Simon Carroll, President of Saab Canada, Inc. “With the establishment of a new Cyber Security Resilience Centre as part of the FFCP, Saab will build an even greater legacy in Canada, further serving our goal to keep people and society safe.”
Saab helps companies and organizations test and secure their products, businesses and infrastructure from emerging cyber threats, a need that is amplified with modern technological developments in 5G and Artificial Intelligence.
With the intention to collaborate with Canadian industry and academia on the centre, Saab will seek to develop connections with industry partners over the coming months.
To this end, Saab will participate in a round table discussion on cyber security in smart manufacturing, hosted by The Sweden Canada Innovation Initiative. Set to take place on Wednesday September 15th, 2021, participating stakeholders from both countries will use the opportunity to share their experiences and best practices. The establishment of the Saab Cyber Security Resilience Centre is part of the associated Canada-wide Industrial and Technological Benefits program from Saab for the FFCP. Canada is currently seeking new fighter jets to replace the nations aging fleet of CF-18's. Saab, in co-operation with the Swedish government, has offered 88 Gripen E fighter aircraft for the FFCP. To be built in Canada, a Canadian acquisition of Gripen would generate thousands of jobs across the country and generate investments into sensor research, additive manufacturing, aerospace, cyber security and more.
