Trade Compliance Manager

The role - 2 year FTC

The Trade Compliance Manager will be responsible for providing expert guidance to the business on compliance matters specifically relating to Australian and foreign export control regimes, including the Defence Trade Controls (DTC) and Customs Acts, ITAR, FMS/RSAT and EAR, and related compliance regimes such as the SAMS Act.

The incumbent is expected to be an active member of the Legal & Commercial team and to contribute to the achievement of the role of the Legal & Commercial Group within Saab, specifically with regard to trade compliance matters, including under the DTC and SAMS Acts.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Significantly contribute to the Ethics & Compliance team’s involvement in planning and implementing changes required for company-wide compliance with the DTC Act, and the SAMS Act.
  • Undertake the development and continuous improvement of standardised company and project specific policies, procedures and tools to ensure compliance with local and global regulations, including where arising from the DTC Act changes and the SAMS Act, and bring about associated organisational change.
  • Ensure the company complies with all relevant export control regimes, including the DTC and SAMS Acts, and related regulations.
  • Develop and deliver relevant compliance training with respect to export control, including DTC and SAMS Acts and related regulatory changes.
  • Liaise with relevant contacts and regulatory bodies regarding export controls, including DTC and SAMS Act compliance matters, including Defence Export Controls, and seek timely submission and processing to support the company’s projects and products.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Detailed knowledge and experience in Australian and global trade laws and regulations.
  • Experience in supply chain and Australian Customs procedures.
  • Experience in compliance management in a multi-faceted and multi-jurisdiction business/organisation.
  • Effective influencing skills working with executive, managers and supervisors.
  • Desirable but not essential: Working knowledge of the Australian Defence Industry contracting and procurement processes.
  • Desirable but not essential: Tertiary Qualifications in a relevant discipline – e.g. Law, Commerce, Business

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level or have the ability to gain one.
