Your role
As our Test Hardware Lead you are a key part in ensuring the functionality, quality and reliability of the electronic warfare sensor products developed and built in Tampere.
The Test Hardware Lead is pivotal part of our Test HW Platforms group. You will be defining the architecture of our hardware test systems from PCBA to unit level, but also leading your team, mentoring, setting best practices and ways of working for the team. It is your responsibility to ensure that the hardware test system in our R&D labs and production are functional and in top operating condition, and also to manage the design, integration and documentation of new test systems. You will collaborate closely with the product development teams (SW and HW) to ensure that the hardware test systems have the technical capabilities required by our products. This position does not include line management duties.
Test HW Platforms is a group within the wider testing team at Saab Tampere, which is responsible for software and hardware testing in R&D and production phase, field testing, environmental qualification and system testing. The team has low hierarchy and an open and friendly working culture with both seasoned veterans and eager newcomers working to keep society and people safe.
The main responsibilities include:
- Developing and integrating hardware test systems for our electronic warfare sensor products, for R&D and production environments
- Lead a small team of hardware test engineers
- Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to specify and design hardware test systems and equipment
- Stay up-to-date on the latest hardware testing technologies and trends, continuously improving our testing processes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, manufacturing, software) to ensure a smooth product development cycle
- Manage and maintain HW test systems architecture, common interfaces and platforms including documentation
- Define and maintain the lifecycle management process for HW test systems, including repair, maintenance, calibration and update actions and responsible roles
- Effectively communicate test hardware status, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders
- Responsible for test system technology transfers to/from other Saab sites & partners
- Participate to Saab global test hardware platform development
The position includes some infrequent traveling (<20 %).

Good communication and interpersonal skills are important to help you work together effectively with the various stakeholders.
Required skills and experience:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronical Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years of work experience in designing hardware test systems
- 5+ years of experience with RF testing or design, including RF measurements of active and passive devices
- Solid understanding of PCBA and hardware product level testing methods and processes
- Excellent communication skills in Finnish and English, verbal and written
- Excellent documentation skills
- Excellent problem solving skills
We highly appreciate:
- Understanding of and experience with various communication interfaces, such as SPI, I2C, Ethernet, USB, UART, analog and digital I/O
- Experience in Design for Testing and/or Design for Manufacturing
- Experience in team leadership
- Experience in process development
- Proven ability to perform well under pressure
In this job, some of your tasks have a connection to defense secrecy. Therefore, a drug test and approved security clearance in accordance with the Finnish Security Clearance act 726/2014 is required for the selected applicant.
