Job Description:

At Saab in West Lafayette, Indiana, you have the opportunity to join a team that will manufacture the rear section of the T-7A Red Hawk military trainer aircraft for the United States Air Force. When at full capacity, Saab will employ over 300 employees in the West Lafayette facility in management, administration, and manufacturing roles.

This flagship facility will utilize advanced manufacturing techniques and leverage research and development to support Saab’s broad product portfolio. As we continue to grow operations, we are seeking a Technical Training Professional to evaluate and teach the technical skills needed to develop a world-class production system. The ideal candidate is responsible for activities related to conducting and evaluating technical aptitude tests, facilitating skills training, coaching and mentoring new Assemblers, and helping to build a positive and rewarding work culture as a leader in our on-site Training Academy.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the Saab Aerospace training academy center dedicated to skills- based development

  • Create a training curriculum tailored for aircraft structural and system assembly in collaboration with our engineers and managers, with a strong focus on quality, environmental health and safety, and government compliance 

  • Contribute to a people-first culture in alignment with our core Company values: Trust, Drive, Expertise, and Support

  • Identify operational training needs, recommending technologies and best practices to help promote aviation structures education and collaboration of employees in an internationally diverse company

  • Continually evaluate and enhance training content to best serve the success of the operation

  • Conduct technical aptitude testing as part of the selection process for assembly teams 

  • Deliver computer, paper, and orally based training material in an engaging and interactive format

  • Oversee the practical application of skills through OTJ training to ensure compliance of best practices and minimize NCRs   

  • Develop and execute a training matrix and assessment system that promotes growth, productivity, and compliance within the aerospace industry

  • Maintain an environment of continual process improvement that supports the development and growth of our team members

  • Other tasks as assigned

Compensation range: $61,600-$75,500

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, Engineering, technical field or equivalent relevant work experience is required

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in a training role

  • Experience training advanced manufacturing technologies such as powered industrial tools, automated machinery, paint and adhesives, and assembly/cutting tools

  • Understanding of the design, quality regulations and assembly requirements of an aerospace manufacturing facility is a strong plus

  • Experience in developing standardized work instructions and assessments tools

  • Ability to develop and deliver effective teaching methodologies

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and public speaking skills

  • Strong organizational, time management, and administrative skills to manage and deliver multiple training programs

  • Must be a team player

  • Experience working in an international environment is preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be self-mobile and able to stand for extended periods

  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as sitting, bending, stooping, walking, and reaching during a normal workday

  • Can regularly lift up to 25 pounds

Citizenship Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident (green card holder), or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
