Systems Engineering Leads – multiple roles

The role

Saab Australia Naval Combat Systems (NCS) is seeking interest from experienced Systems Engineering Leads to oversee a specific team of specialist engineers, who form part of the Combat Systems Engineering Team within a large NCS program.

Each lead will work within their assigned domain that contributes to architecture development and design coordination activities, including the conduct of technical investigations, performing risk assessments, and identifying opportunities for programmatic efficiencies across different phases of the engineering lifecycle.

They will interact with other domain leads and transverse engineering disciplines, including security assurance, safety, electromagnetic analysis and speciality engineering.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Develop engineering change packs
  • Manage change efforts across the systems engineering, ship integration and test, and transversal engineering teams
  • Execute systems engineering activities that support requirements analysis, architecture definition and development of system and subsystem design and integration
  • Support the execution of major program milestones such as design (SRR, SDR, PDR, IDR, and DDR), test readiness and system readiness reviews
  • Work with a range of other domain leads and engineering disciplines such as security assurance, systems safety, EM analysis and ILS
  • Regularly interface with a range of stakeholders including engineering managers and project managers.

About you

In addition to experience in a particular domain such as Communications, Electronic Warfare, Above Water, Sensors and Weapons, your skills and experience will include:

  • A degree in a relevant engineering discipline, and/or equivalent experience
  • One or more of the following areas of defence maritime speciality: aviation; communications (SATCOM); and electronic warfare systems
  • Balancing complex engineering trade space – using formal analysis methods – to achieve viable solutions in the System-of-Systems integration context
  • Integration, test and evaluation of CS Products into naval platforms or equivalent complex military systems having challenging constraints
  • Development methodologies on complex modern systems using a documented process
  • Systems engineering lifecycle, methods, tools and techniques
  • Engineering management, risk mitigation and business improvement
  • Working in an engineering project multi-disciplinary environment (preferably within the defence industry)
  • Guiding, mentoring and training employees.


As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and be required to obtain and hold an Australian Defence Security NV1 clearance.
