System Safety Engineer

About the role

We’re pleased to invite applications for the position of System Safety Engineer, to join our safety engineering team.

Based in either Saab’s Mawson Lakes or Hawthorn office (SA and VIC respectively) and reporting to the Team Lead, you will work alongside senior engineers to design and implement solutions that meet rigorous safety and engineering standards.

In this pivotal role, you’ll contribute to the development, integration, and maintenance of cutting-edge systems.

As part of your specific responsibilities, you will:

  • Plan cost-effective and integrated system safety programs for low to moderately complex programs.
  • Perform system safety program tasks according to approved system safety program plans.
  • Perform hazard analysis tasks covering both physical and functional hazards.
  • Evaluate designs to provide assurance that safety requirements have been met.
  • Prepare and maintain system hazard logs.
  • Prepare and maintain system Safety Assessment Reports / Safety Case Reports.
  • Participate in System Safety Working Groups.
  • Provide progress and status reports on assigned system safety tasks.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • 4+ years of safety engineering experience in a technology focussed industry, such as defence, automotive,
  • chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, manufacturing or robotics [essential]
  • Knowledge of contemporary safety engineering standards and processes, such as MIL-STD-882, DefStan
  • 00-056, IEC 61508 or ISO 26262 [essential]
  • Experience in working with multi-discipline teams, customers and stakeholder's [essential]
  • Experience in applying safety engineering to maritime combat systems [desirable]
  • Experience in preparing safety engineering artefacts to ASDEFCON Data Item Descriptions [desirable]

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Equivalent relevant experience in defence or related industries is desirable.

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
