Job Description:

Saab, Inc. is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Systems Engineer to join our Systems Engineering, Integration & Test team to lead development of complex electronic surveillance systems for commercial and government customers. This role is critical to successfully developing products and executing projects to achieve Saab’s vision – It’s a human right to feel safe. The location of this position is flexible; the successful candidate will either work onsite at our East Syracuse, NY, office or remotely support the development activities there. Hardware and software integration activities may require extended periods where the candidate will need to be onsite.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining specifications and technical documentation to support customer deliverables and internal systems engineering processes.

  • Leading technical investigations for new feature development and change requests from both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Developing technical documentation and presentation materials for design reviews and support the production of technical manuals.

  • Executing hands-on product integration and troubleshooting using the Linux console, network analysis tools, and Linux OS configuration files.

  • Supporting Customer Service and Program Engineers with deployment and troubleshooting of systems throughout the world.

  • Supporting proposal activities by analyzing requirements, assessing compliance/NRE, providing cost and schedule input, and providing/editing technical written material.

  • Developing software intensive products which provide system configuration services for safety critical and defense systems

Compensation Range: $112,900 - $146,800

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in critical industries (e.g., aerospace, defense/military, medical, transportation, nuclear, banking, healthcare, finance, etc.)

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to form productive relationships in a team environment

  • Demonstrated personal time management, planning, and organizing skills

  • Drive to take ownership of and responsibility for major tasks and programs

Desired:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline

  • Strong Linux background especially with virtual machine configuration

  • Experience with Ansible automation, security hardening benchmarks, and/or security controls

  • Experience with networked computer systems and/or virtual machine environments

  • Experience with cybersecurity, system hardening, and/or intrusion testing

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and related tools

  • Ability to understand customer requirements and develop system-level, product level and component level requirements.

  • Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal), present to, and collaborate with both technical and non-technical colleagues and customers.

  • Ability to generate high-quality technical documentation, including architecture documents, requirements specifications, interface descriptions, reports, and white papers.

  • Understand high-level programming languages such as Ansible, MATLAB, Java, Python, etc.

  • Familiarity with Linux, IP networks, software troubleshooting, and/or RF test equipment

  • Programming skills in Ansible, MATLAB, LabVIEW, C/C++, Java, and/or Python.

  • Experience with specifying or developing server software applications, particularly in mixed Windows and Linux environments
