Senior Project Engineer

Job Description:

Saab Inc.’s rapidly growing Land Systems division is seeking a dynamic Senior Project Engineer with experience in munitions and missile weapon systems development, integration, and test.  The candidate should be able to conduct concept developments, understand, follow, and implement systems and test architectures, and conduct multi-functional system integrations and tests, including platform integration.

The results-oriented candidate should take initiative, exhibit technical knowledge and leadership, solve hands-on simple and complex “system of systems” problems, multi-task, and provide feasible solutions along the full development, integration, verification, and demonstration cycle. The candidate will work closely with the project and program leadership, engineering and functional teams across businesses and locations.

Travel is required, both domestic and international. Currently the position is remote home office with travel; relocation may be required to a future facility location, at this time TBD.

Responsibilities include:

  • Engineering projects execution.
  • Leading product integration, verification and test lean teams.
  • Proposal support.
  • Active assistance with current programs and efforts.
  • Work on development, verification, and test problems of diverse, multi-functional scope (hardware, software, human interface, existing interfaces, schedule constraints, etc.) where solutions require evaluation and balancing of variety of factors.
  • Interface with project leadership, engineering, operations, and other relevant functions to define, develop, and implement the most effective solutions for a given project execution, often based on limited requirements and inputs, while providing compliance with Department of Defense products and company quality requirements and values.
  • Independently select and drive necessary methods and techniques for obtaining, integrating, and implementing solutions, including re-use of Saab products and technologies, mature commercial-off-the-shelf components, and relevant scientific findings.
  • Contribute to adoption of new design and development approaches to improve overall quality, reliability, and speed of implementation.
  • Work closely with existing products’ design authorities and jointly generate the best solution for given problems, as well as communicate effectively with suppliers, customers, and teammates, both domestically and internationally.
  • Interacts with internal or external customers on technical and programmatic issues.
  • Provide relevant education and share all aspects of missile and munition weapon systems knowledge with the team. Mentor and support engineering staff development. Contribute to manpower and resource planning and scheduling.
  • As required, participate in proposal support efforts, estimates, basis of estimates, and reviews.
  • Actively assist Land Systems engineering leadership with other division efforts, including production support, failure investigations and troubleshooting.

    Compensation Range: $108,000-$137,700

    The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

    Skills and Experience:

    Required Experience and Skills:

    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering and minimum 8 years of experience in related field; Master of Science in Engineering and minimum 6 years of experience in related field.
    • Hands-on, direct, multi-discipline experience with weapon systems (missiles, munitions, and platforms in land, sea, and air domains) concepts of operation, requirements, design, manufacturing, integration, test, production, and life cycle sustainment.
    • Working experience with DoD and industry engineering processes, procedures, requirements, tools, and practices.
    • System, subsystem integration, test planning and execution experience.
    • Engineering and engineering leadership skills through all phases of multi-discipline project cycle, including conceptualization, design, integration, verification, and test.
    • Effective communications with leadership, subordinates, and peers, both domestically and internationally.
    • Self-starter, working with minimum direction.
    • DoD Secret clearance (minimum).
    • International and domestic travel is required, at least 30%. May require extended travel during integration and test activities.


    Desired Experience and Skills:

    • Experience with autonomous systems, multiple domains, both manned and unmanned.
    • Experience with weapon-system specific aspects of engineering, including system navigation, motion controls, target acquisition and tracking, guidance systems, fire control, power management, and target defeat.
    • Experience with configuration management and tools, TDP release and configuration control, change control notices, risks and opportunities management, quality control, and other supporting functions.
    • Space and/or maritime system experience with software/hardware integration experience, especially in autonomy and artificial intelligence a plus.

    Citizenship Requirements:

    Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
