The role
As part of our Naval Combat Systems (NCS) group, the Senior Project Controller role will provide guidance and leadership in cost and schedule baseline maintenance including reporting of project cost and schedule status. They will assist with mentoring project controllers, project managers (PMs), control account managers (CAMs) and task managers in project planning, monitoring and control.
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Work with PMs and CAMs to champion the development of project schedules and budgets and select appropriate earned value techniques
- Coordinate and lead cost/schedule planning activities with the CAMs and PMs
- Assist in the establishment and maintenance of WBS dictionaries
- Co-ordinate and control the work authorisation process
- Ensure that planning, scheduling, budgeting and reporting activities are fully integrated and capable of displaying a valid critical path
- Establish and maintain project baselines, project authorisation and other project controls related documentation
- Integrate project schedules and cost management tools with timely implementation of baseline and contract changes
- Interpret, analyse and report on project performance data and metrics
- Mentor and assist CAMs in performance management, including the month-end process, statusing, data analysis, variance analysis reporting and forecasting
- Develop and lead in the generation and improvement of of the project controls and earned value management processes, investigate and implement process improvement
- Contribute and assist in the development of program master schedules and cobra master projects
- Ensure that the EVM System is compliant to internal/external standards, process, procedures and governance (ASDEFCON Material, AS4817:2019 and Defence Supplement to AS4817).
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home/office, 9 day fortnight and part time (0.8 FTE minimum) will be considered for this role.
About you
Your skills and experience will include:
- Five plus years as a project planner and controller on medium to high complexity projects
- A tertiary qualification(s) in an engineering, science or business discipline (desirable)
- Project performance measurement using earned value to AS4817:2019 and the defence supplement
- Knowledge and understanding of project management processes (e.g. PMBOK)
- Developing reports using MS Excel 2016 data model capability and Power BI
- Project management software (preferably Open Plan Professional)
- Cost management software (preferably COBRA)
- Excellent inter-personal, verbal and written communication
- Cost and scheduling performance and reporting
- Problem solving skills including identifying system issues
- An ability to cope with change
- A customer and outcome focus
- An ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance and develop and maintain a positive, collaborative and efficient work environment for all staff.
