Mechanical Design Engineer

The Role

As a mechanical design engineer part of the Radar Solutions product unit, you will participate in multidisciplinary teams to design and develop mechanical systems for complex radar and telecommunications products. You will support systems, electronic, software, and production engineers by providing mechanical design solutions in all phases of the product life cycle, from concept generation and planning to industrialisation and serial production.

Responsibilities

  • Translate general system requirements into objective mechanical design constraints.
  • Generate concepts, detailed designs, and analysis of mechanical systems.
  • Perform basic structural and thermal calculation of mechanical systems and components.
  • Produce design and manufacturing information - engineering drawings, engineering bill of materials, model-based definitions, design reports, testing procedures, etc.
  • Participate in the integration and testing processes of prototypes or new subsystems and products.
  • Assist in the selection and development of manufacturing suppliers in the region.

Required Formal Qualifications, Experience and Background

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, aeronautical, or equivalent engineering discipline, with focus on technical design.
  • Experience of minimum 5 years in the development of mechanical systems and components for the defence, automotive or aerospace industries.
  • Experience working in highly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with the selection and use of ISO, EN and MIL standards and specifications.

Required Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical detailed design and design for manufacture on metallics and composite materials.
  • Applied knowledge of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing, focus on ISO General Product Specifications GPS.
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of CAD tools to produce high-quality models and definitions of parts, assemblies, and products. – Preferably Solidworks, Siemens NX, or CATIA.
  • Solid foundation of material and surface finishing selection for mechanical and environmental requirements.
  • General understanding of engineering development cycles.
  • Operational proficiency of configuration control, change management, and CAD data structure.

Highly Desired Competencies

  • Advanced proficiency in structural analysis and simulation of lightweight structures, including composite materials.
  • Capability to develop basic energy models and thermal analysis of electronic products.
  • Experience in the design of hardware for electronics – packaging, cabling and electromagnetic compatibility analysis.
  • Proficiency in the detailed selection of materials and manufacturing methods.
