Lead Architect, Smart Manufacturing COE

Your role

We are seeking a Lead Architect for Smart Manufacturing to take an important role in Saab's digital transformation in the manufacturing domain. As the Lead Architect for the Smart Manufacturing Center of Excellence (COE), you will be responsible for driving the domain architectural vision, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals, and fostering innovation in digital manufacturing solutions. Collaborating with various business units, stakeholders, and IT teams, you will define and implement scalable, secure, and future-proof architectures that connect manufacturing operations with enterprise IT systems, contributing to the overall digital transformation.


Main responsibilities:

  • Architectural Vision: Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive and updated Smart Manufacturing domain architecture that supports organizational goals.

  • Defining Architecture: Develop and maintain architectural standards for Operational Technology (OT) and IT components, ensuring alignment with Saab's digital transformation vision.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with business unit stakeholders and IT teams to align Smart Manufacturing solutions with specific needs and cross-functional goals.

  • Proof of Concept & Technology Evaluation: Lead PoC initiatives to validate new technologies and platforms, ensuring they meet performance, scalability, and security requirements.

  • Service & Solution Development: Support the development of IT and OT services that bridge enterprise systems (ERP, PLM) with operational systems (MES, SCADA, IoT).

  • Demand Discovery: Conduct workshops and capability mapping to uncover business needs and identify areas for innovation.

  • Technology Selection: Guide teams in selecting technologies (MES, IoT, SCADA) that enhance business value and ensure seamless integration.

  • Technical Leadership: Provide senior technical guidance to development teams, ensuring adherence to architecture standards.

  • Best Practices & Compliance: Establish best practices for manufacturing-related IT/OT systems and ensure compliance with architectural principles and performance standards.

The workplace is located in one of our locations: Järfälla, Alvik, Linköping or Göteborg

For the role of Lead Architect COE Smart Manufacturing, we believe that you have the following skills and experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in a lead role as an IT Solutions Architect within Smart Manufacturing or Industry 4.0 environments.
  • Extensive technical expertise in IT infrastructure and platforms, including cloud, hybrid, and on-premise solutions, with a focus on Smart Manufacturing ecosystems.
  • Experience in the modeling, design, and documentation of advanced IT solutions, with a strong emphasis on digital transformation and Smart Manufacturing systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of architectural layers ranging from enterprise to solution and system architecture, aligned with Industry 4.0 standards.
  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, drive technology evaluations, and lead Proof of Concept (PoC) initiatives.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a track record of collaborating with various stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of security, compliance, and architectural best practices.
  • Fluent in both Swedish and English.

This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
