Graduate Systems Engineer

The role

As a Saab Graduate, you will work alongside experienced engineers to deliver world leading and innovative projects. 

Saab’s Graduate Program is a two year program, which offers you the opportunity to work in either; a focused program, dedicated to honing technical proficiency in a specific area, or a dynamic experience with structured rotations across two diverse teams within our organisation.

The Graduate Systems Engineer’s main focus will be working within technical teams to assist in the development and sustainment of systems and products across Saab programs, working under guidance and supervision of experienced systems engineers.

Our 2026 Graduate Systems Engineering program will be comprised of the following graduate roles, based out of our Adelaide office.

Systems Engineering: design of Combat Systems for the Royal Australian Navy’s surface fleet, including requirements analysis, interface definition and platform & systems integration. This role would suit those studying electrical/electronics, mechanical/mechatronic or related engineering degrees.

Systems Safety Engineering: systems safety design of Combat Systems for the Royal Australian Navy’s surface fleet, including hazard analysis, risk assessment and developing safety cases for acceptance. This role would suit those studying electrical/electronics or related engineering degrees.

Systems Security Engineering: systems security design of Combat Systems for the Royal Australian Navy’s surface fleet, including risk analysis, vulnerability analysis, software assurance and vulnerability testing. This role would suit those studying software, computer science or electrical/electronic/mechatronic degrees with cyber elements.

Support Systems Engineering: support systems design of Combat Systems for the Royal Australian Navy’s surface fleet, including analysis tasks, specification development and documenting support system designs involving people, process and products. This role would suit those studying electrical/electronics, mechanical/mechatronic or related engineering degrees.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Participate in the system requirement definition, design, implementation, integration and test, verification and validation activities typically for low to moderate complexity, not safety critical systems components and interfaces.
  • Contribute to development of engineering artefacts and customer deliverables, including in speciality engineering domains (e.g. system security, safety, ILS, environmental)
  • Assist in developing technical documentation such as drawings and parts lists
  • Develop an understanding of the operational use of the associated system under development.
  • Produce all artefacts required for deliverables and internal reviews.
  • Participate in reviews of systems and documentation and testing as required.

About you

We are looking for talented and inquisitive problem-solvers, who are interested and passionate about designing and developing products that will help to keep people and society safe, which is one of our important core values.

You will be a recent graduate (completed within the last two (2) years), or about to complete a Bachelor’s Degree,

specialising in engineering or technology (i.e. computer systems, electrical/electronic, mechanical/mechatronic, software,

IT, telecommunications) or related technical discipline

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Knowledge about contemporary engineering methods, principles and best practices.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to stakeholders (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to analyse technical problems in a structured, scientific manner and identify possible technical solutions
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Prior undergraduate work placement, internship or other equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in applying existing system engineering processes, standards, methodologies and producing technical documentation


A Defence security clearance is required for these roles, you will be an Australian citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain appropriate clearance.
