The Graduate Hardware Engineer’s main focus will be to work under the supervision of an experienced Hardware engineer on the design and development of Hardware components within Saab. Our 2026 Hardware Graduate program will be based out of our Adelaide office noted below:
Hardware Engineering: focusing on the design of electrical/electronic and mechanical/mechatronic solutions for our surface ship Combat Management System and Autonomous/Submarine Systems within the Defence domain, including requirements, design, build and test of hardware solutions. This role will suit those studying electrical/electronics, mechanical/mechatronic or related engineering degrees.
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Participate in the design and development of system/subsystem electrical/electronic and/or mechanical/mechatronic product solutions
- Participate in the research of and product selections of procured specialist hardware items, products and related equipment and support integration and testing activities
- Develop an understanding of the operational use of the associated system under development.
- Participate in the design, development and documentation of hardware components to meet the specified requirements and component design.
- Produce all artefacts required for deliverables, internal reviews, procurement and realisation.
- Participate in reviews of hardware and documentation as required and participate in testing.
About you
We are looking for talented and inquisitive problem-solvers, who are interested and passionate about designing and developing products that will help to keep people and society safe, which is one of our important core values.
You will be a recent graduate (completed within the last two (2) years), or about to complete a Bachelor’s Degree,
specialising in electrical/electronic engineering, mechanical/mechatronic, or related technical discipline.
Your skills and experience will include:
- Knowledge about contemporary hardware development standards, principles and best practices.
- Experience in writing and/or reviewing hardware related documentation that satisfies all engineering requirements.
- Communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to work with others in a team environment.
- Problem solving skills and the ability to develop creative and innovative solutions.
- Broad understanding of technology and technology trends.
- Experience in designing and developing hardware
- Experience with the tools used to develop and support hardware development such as Computer Aided Design (CAD)
- A genuine interest and appreciation of large commercial and defence hardware systems A genuine interest and appreciation of large commercial and defence software intensive systems
A Defence security clearance is required for these roles, you will be an Australian citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain appropriate clearance.
