Field Training Support Officer

The role

As part of our Land & Aerospace group, the Field Training Support Officer will provide subject matter expertise and support for the planning, storage, maintenance and employment of field training systems.

The Field Training Support Officer supports the Exercise lead by advising how the field training systems should be employed to deliver realistic and adaptable training. They will support the Exercise Lead in deploying the system and advising on limitations, capabilities, safety and customer tactics, techniques and procedures. The Field Training Support Officer will monitor field training events/serials and identify key/decisive events for After Action Review. 

The Field Training Support Officer will collate this information, analyse, and prepare After Action Reports, and support the Exercise Lead in delivering the After Action Reviews. In addition, they will be required to have technical expertise required to provide 1st line support to the equipment.

This role will require travel to a range of training areas across Australia and locations in support of customer training.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Delivering equipment familiarity and functionality training to the end user,
  • Delivering capability briefs to the end user as required,
  • Assist the exercise leadership in preparation, planning and execution of training serials,
  • Executes Weapon Effect Simulation plans,
  • Proposes dynamic scenario adaptations as the training serial evolves,
  • Monitors progress of the training serial and inform the Exercise Lead through the training scenario,
  • Monitors live field video and annotate and edit for During Action Review,
  • Provide analysis and content for After Action Review throughout the training serial as detailed by the Exercise Lead.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Former Military Officer or Non-Commissioned Officer with operational experience and / or experience with working in a training environment,
  • Analytical skills with good oral and written communications,
  • Ability to regularly liaise with customer stakeholders and user groups in a professional manner,
  • Ability to support Army in remote areas of the country for extended periods of time,
  • Ability to work autonomously and in small teams.
  • Proficient in the use of PCs and relevant software applications (MS Office Suite, etc.).
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 and the ability to gain an LV2 level of clearance.
