About the role
We are seeking an accomplished business winning executive to lead our Strategic Bid Centre and drive business-winning capabilities to support Saab’s ambitious growth objectives.
Based in either Saab’s Mawson Lakes or Hawthorn office (SA and VIC respectively) and reporting to the Chief Growth Officer, you will be responsible for enhancing and managing Saab Australia’s capture and bid development function.
In this Pivotal role, you’ll lead a high-performing team to ensure the business has a mature, industry-leading capture capability that maximizes our Probability of Win (PWin) on complex Defence and Civil opportunities.
This role is critical in shaping our strategic bid function, providing expert leadership throughout the business-winning lifecycle—from early market assessment through to tender delivery and contract handover.

As part of your specific responsibilities, you will:
- Lead and continuously improve the Strategic Bid Centre, enhancing Saab’s bid and capture capabilities.
- Provide strategic capture support, governance, and best practices to optimize bid success rates.
- Oversee complex and strategic tenders, ensuring compliance with ASDEFCON frameworks and other regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with business units to refine campaign strategies, capture planning, and bid execution.
- Drive professional development initiatives in bid management, proposal development, and strategic capture disciplines.
- Maintain a central knowledge repository for proposal templates, collateral, and lessons learned.
- Ensure robust financial oversight, tracking bid budgets and resource allocation.
- Act as the governance authority for tender responses, pricing, and cost approvals.
- Build strong relationships with Defence and industry stakeholders, ensuring alignment with long-term business objectives.
About you
Skills and Experience:
- Proven leadership experience in capture and bid management, particularly within the Defence industry.
- Extensive experience developing strategic bids, including ASDEFCON-based proposals.
- Proven success in managing high-value Defence and Civil tenders.
- Strong background in Capture capability uplift and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrated success in engaging with senior Defence and industry stakeholders.
- Budget management and forecasting expertise.
- Deep understanding of the Australian Defence procurement environment and Defence tendering processes.
- Experience in designing and delivering bid and capture management training programs.
- Strong commercial acumen with financial and strategic planning skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with Executives, senior managers, and cross-functional teams.
- Experience in international business environments, including cultural and commercial considerations.
Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
- Significant experience in high-value capture and bid management.

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including superior presentation abilities.
- Strong leadership and team motivation capabilities in high-pressure environments.

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
