COMMERCIAL ADVISOR

The role

As part of the Commercial Group and reporting to the Head of Commercial, the Commercial Advisor will have a responsibility for the management of the contractual arrangements and provide a pro-active and timely commercial service to both internal and external customers.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Undertake contractual management of projects, statements of work (SOW) and contract obligations to assess any potential scope changes, schedule entitlement impacts or interface issues.
  • Negotiate and prepare Contract Change Proposals (CCPs) and undertake Survey & Quotation (S&Q) activities.
  • Lead point of contact for contractual issues, notices and external project correspondence.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks.
  • Assist the Legal Team in the resolution of issues and disputes.
  • Provide commercial advice to project team ensuring that key commercial, legal and contractual issues are dealt with in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Lead negotiations with customers and stakeholders relating to contractual issues to deliver appropriate commercial outcomes.
  • Comply with legislation and Company policies, duty of care and the quality management system.

This role is on a fixed term 18 Months contract.

Preferable location is Rockingham, WA, however also open to review candidates in SA or VIC.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Demonstrated experience in a contract management (or equivalent) role, and an excellent working knowledge of contract management processes and techniques.
  • A minimum of 3 years in a contract management role, establishing, managing and closing out contracts.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven commercial acumen with the ability to recognise issues and identify key risk areas.
  • Proven ability to manage internal and external stakeholders and build effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relevant contract law and broad experience negotiating legal terms and conditions with customers, in conjunction with the legal counsel.
  • Organisational skills with ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Exposure to the ASDEFCON contract suite.
  • Working knowledge of Australian and US Government Export control processes.
  • Demonstrated experience and a working understanding of collaborative contracting frameworks (desirable).

Educational Qualifications and Professional Memberships

  • Tertiary Qualifications in relevant discipline (Law, Business or Commerce).
  • Ability to work independently and effectively on multiple projects.
  • Ability to identify key issues, prioritise tasks and resolve problems under pressure.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to conduct work without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated innovative and creative approach to problems and opportunities.
  • Comfortable dealing with conflict and confrontation in a changing environment.
  • Professional manner with personal integrity and high ethical standards.
  • Display behaviours that reflect company values.
  • Treat everyone with respect, communicate regularly and openly with manager and team, and ensure all decisions are made with fairness in mind.


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to baseline/NV1/NV2 level
