Job Description:

Saab, Inc. is seeking a Business Development Manager for the Orlando, FL location to focus on qualifying and capturing high value opportunities across the Team Orlando portfolio focused on the US Army and National Guard.  You will work autonomously to influence and partner with internal and external stakeholders, while leading significant proposal and capture efforts. You will be responsible for guiding others on the business development team.

 

Understanding business unit products and services combined with the ability to work with technical experts to identify solutions, which will meet customers' needs and requirements is crucial. Lastly, this role will give you the opportunity to interface across disciplines and departments and recommend changes to products and processes as necessary.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Lead select Orlando BD individuals and external consultants reporting to the Director of BD for Land Systems and the Director of Training & Simulation for US Business.

  • Provide persuasive, focused and data driven updates to the Training & Simulation Leadership Team and Land Systems staff

  • Demonstrate and evaluate appropriate return on investment for resources allocated to Marketing & Sales.

  • Lead the delivery of Training & Simulation Order capture responding to the Strategic direction set by the T&S and Land Systems Leadership Team.

  • Provide strategic & tactical leadership for the identification, capture planning and capture execution of programs/contracts to support Training & Simulation. 

  • Develop and lead a results-focused Business Development and Capture organization within Training & Simulation delivering acceptable RoI for investment of resources. 

  • Develop and implement disciplined, data driven capture plans and strategies, understand the customer’s requirements and the competition and develop / implement winning strategies that highlight strengths and mitigate weaknesses; establish value added teaming strategies and competitive pricing structures to create a profitable return at a winning cost.

  • Lead collaborative cross-functional teams in the development of capture plans to leverage all organizational strengths at Saab Inc. This includes the development of action oriented, measurable and specific capture plans, customer and engagement plans, and providing operational and technical inputs to develop system solutions.

  • Develop and maintain excellent relations with customers. Ensure continuing customer relations and an effective flow of information to deliver business objectives.

  • Become a good corporate citizen of the community by participating in local professional organizations (e.g. AUSA, NDIA, NTSA, NGAUS etc), command sponsored events, charities and become a part of the customer community.

  • Coordinate with U.S. Army PEO STRI, TCM-LIVE, other applicable TCM Offices, STE Live Program Office, Cross Functional Teams (STE), PEO-STRI-Threat Systems Management Office, ASAALT, the Pentagon (G3,G8) offices, National Guard Bureau, NGAUS, other specific NG states and local Defense Industries to identify mission needs, capabilities, and requirements in support of technical inputs and concept of operations to develop system solutions.

  • Develop and manage relevant budgets, Bid and Proposal resources, and associated R&D activity.

Compensation Range: $154,300-$204,500

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent experience

  • 10 years of business development in defense industry and/or relevant military experience

  • Expert Knowledge of DoD acquisition process

  • Expert Knowledge of government procurement policies and procedures

Required Skills:

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Secret level clearance

  • Must possess outstanding leadership, communication, strategic planning, Voice of the Customer and relationship management skills

  • Must have an ability to formulate strategic business plans

  • Ability to engage and leverage other internal key stakeholders and outside stakeholders to meet customer needs and objectives and influence customer procurement process

  • Must have ability to lead proposal teams to winning solutions

  • Must be a recognized internally as a subject matter expert

Desired Experience:

  • U.S. DoD experience with training systems, understanding of acquisition processes, US Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM).US Army Cross Functional Teams, Army Futures Command and Industrial Partners

  • Industry experience related to Training as a Service; Systems Integration programs and military experience (preferred)

  • Thorough knowledge of US Army and National Guard customers within the U.S. acquisition, requirements development, operational, test & evaluation and research & development communities

  • Has significant marketplace contacts who can influence the company’s market position

  • Ability to direct the activities of others

  • Ability to apply broad expertise and knowledge in highly specialized fields or several related disciplines

  • Ability to lead and contribute to development of company objectives and principles to achieve goals in creative and effective ways

  • Ability to work on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles

  • Requires conceptual thinking to understand advanced issues and implications

  • Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

  • Accountable for results, which may impact the entire function

  • Ability to create formal networks involving coordination among groups

  • Focuses on providing thought leadership and works on broader organization projects, which requires understanding of wider business

  • Ability to convey advanced information and persuading several diverse stakeholders/audiences

Citizenship Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
