We are looking for students who has a genuine interest in automation development that can help bring simplicity to a complex operational environment.
Your role
Virtualized PLCs (SoftPLC) can replace a large number of individual controllers by replacing them with a more commercial of the shelf (COTS) infrastructure. This can reduce cost, increase reliability, flexibility and scalability. There are a vast number of operating systems supporting time deterministic operations that enables a robust solution.
This bachelor thesis consists of three main tasks:
- A report describing a typical development environment for a SoftPLC, how can a server be configured to run several SoftPLC’s using virtual machines (deterministic operating systems). What are the pros and cons with a SoftPLC implementation (redundancy)
- A prototype using a server with several virtual machines running SoftPLC’s with an external network of sensors.
- A comparison between different SoftPLC applications and time deterministic operating systems with focus on performance, cost and complexity
Keywords: SoftPLC, virtual machine, time deterministic operating systems
