Successful implementation of SAFE in West Mercia Police

Saab’s next generation unified command and control system, SAFE, is now live with West Mercia Police, one of four UK Police Forces to benefit from SAFE’s advanced market leading Public Safety capabilities. Saab have now successfully achieved three separate UK Police Force Go-Lives in just 12 months.

SAFE is Saab's next generation unified control room solution, which replaces disparate traditional control room systems such as, Command and Control, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Radio and Telephony Communications Systems and Contact Management System with a single, modern, intuitive software application that streamlines business and operational workflow.

Magnus Lewis-Olsson, Head of Saab UK said “We are happy to welcome the fourth live UK police force into SAFE operation. Saab and West Mercia Police have worked in a collaborative partnership, adopting a can-do attitude to achieve a very successful Go-Live. The SAFE solution is now live across their two control rooms with more than 140 workstations and an additional 240 clients located at front desks and other critical back office functions. With over 3,000 officers and staff using the SAFE web and SAFE mobile apps every officer can now benefit from direct access to operational and incident management information. We look forward to welcoming more police forces into the SAFE user community in the near future”

Through SAFE’s modern low code configuration framework design the COTS solution has been easily tailored through configuration to achieve West Mercia Police’s specific requirements. SAFE will increase police force efficiency through multi-channel public contact, intelligent resource management and officer dispatch. Officers in the field can access and update incident details as well as capture and share information via their SAFE web and mobile apps.

Deputy Chief Constable Julian Moss from West Mercia Police said “We are delighted that the force is now in live operation using the Saab SAFE unified solution. This was a complex programme replacing eight legacy control room systems with this single, modern platform. The new SAFE solution should enable us to deliver a more efficient and enhanced service to the public, across the three counties the force serves. The COTS solution has been configured to match our ways of working and we are realising the benefits this unified solution brings in helping to streamline our operational and business processes. We are working diligently in partnership with Saab to ensure a smooth and seamless transition”

SAFE has been developed in partnership with the emergency services and is operational in the control rooms of over 30 organisations across the UK, Europe and the USA.

Saab has more than 17,500 staff globally with around 300 UK staff located across five offices. Saab’s Public Safety and Security team consists of over 100 SAFE experts delivering and supporting the product globally. Where necessary, the growing 30 strong UK based SAFE delivery and support team was backed up with additional resource and expertise from colleagues in Sweden who were just +1hr time zone or a 2 hour flight away.
