The new office is located in the Centre for Digital Innovation (C4DI), and is the fifth Saab office in the UK. The other four UK offices are: Saab Seaeye, Saab Technologies UK, QPS and Saab Market Area Europe HQ, all of which are located in the South of the country.
Simon Read, the UK Director of Business Unit Networks and Public Safety said, "When it comes to delivering and supporting our Public Safety customers, we need to offer a broader geographic coverage. We specifically wanted to open a new office in the North of the UK where we can better serve our growing nationwide customer base. Saab already has a few Public Safety team members located in the North. We have been excited to see Hull’s transformation over recent years and growth as the epicentre for digital technology in the region." C4DI is a tech hub with a community of talented people; from web designers, to IT specialists and software developers. Hull has been awarded the UK City of Culture for 2017 and is fast becoming a digital hotspot in the North, driven by the opening of C4DI in 2015, providing co-working space, tech incubation and corporate innovation. Simon added "We’ve chosen C4DI as it offers the opportunity for us to be part of a technology hub and digital community with software development expertise. Our intention is to work with people within C4DI on research and development projects in areas such as Artificial Intelligence and predictive analytics.”
Public Safety products were brought to the UK market in late 2015. Over the past year, Networks & Public Safety has steadily increased its team size to deliver and support the SAFE solution used by UK customers. Thus, Saab has formed a new software development team in the UK, and this team is located in the Hull office. They will further develop an advanced software product, SAFE to meet the specific challenges and needs of the UK market. The new team will collaboratively work with the core SAFE development team in Gothenburg, Sweden and also lead UK-specific innovative R&D and new product development programmes. This will ensure that Saab brings even greater value to UK customers.
Success of Networks & Public Safety UK
- Won a 10 year contract with Cheshire Constabulary where SAFE is being deployed across the entire operational policing environment and replaces legacy systems: command & control; radio dispatch; mapping; resource tracking; mobile data; 999/101 telephony and public contact management. Cheshire Constabulary will go live with the solution before the end of the year.
- The contract with Cheshire Constabulary included a national framework contract allowing 17 named UK police forces to order SAFE without the additional cost.
- Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police forces used the framework to order SAFE, which will be used to bring a transformational change and cost savings by merging the two force’s operations.
