Growing interest
Saab is supplying Airbus with door plugs and cover plates designed and manufactured in India. According to Magnus Falk, head of business development, marketing and sales at Saab’s business unit Aerostructures, this contract reflects growing interest in the region.
At the beginning of September 2015, Airbus announced that Saab would be a supplier on the Airbus A321 Cabin Flex Programme, providing components developed at Saab India Tech Centre and assembled at Aerostructures Assemblies India.
“The joint venture in India provides a very good price in terms of manufacturing skills,” says Falk. “It’s extremely efficient, and we know that India is a very interesting market for customers.”
Falk says Saab offers an attractive proposition to companies wanting to have a presence in strategic countries such as India without taking on the associated risk. “We have five suppliers in India making composites, sheet metals, tools and machine parts – suppliers which we can use in our market efforts when we talk to customers.”
