Gripen E is Superior in Terms of Sensor System: Micael Johansson
The Gripen E offer to India, in comparison with other candidates, is superior in terms of advanced sensor and weapon system as told by Micael Johansson, CEO of Saab, during a recent interview with CBNC.
“It’s more about capability and what a multi-role system like Gripen can do rather than it being about a single or a dual engine,” said Micael. “I think Gripen is absolutely superior in terms of sensor system as well as its integrated avionics system. So capability-wise, I’m very confident about the offer we have made,” added Micael.
When asked about the cost aspect of the Gripen offer, Micael said that Saab has a fantastic price-performance offer. “There is of course a balance between complete life-cycle cost and performance,” says Micael about the Gripen India offer, also adding that Saab has a tremendous track record and reliability on the single-engine approach.
Saab is currently competing for a contract to supply 114 Gripen E/F fighters to India for its Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) programme where the first 18 fighters will be manufactured in Sweden and 96 will be made in India.
Gripen is currently operational in Sweden, Czech Republic, Hungary, Thailand, South Africa, and will soon be operational in Brazil as well.
