Computers to East Timor
Over the past two years, Saab Australia has donated outdated computers and peripherals to the Nazareth Outreach Work project in Timor-Leste (formerly known as East Timor).
Saab Australia Project Manager, Trevor Bate who coordinated the donation said, “the computers are re-configured with Ubuntu operating system and will be installed in the Triloka village medical clinic, maternity clinic, agricultural training centre and surrounding schools”.
The computers operate standalone with a basic network setup and are used by locals for documentation, record-keeping and training.
Nazareth volunteers installed the first shipment of computers in December 2014, and trained local staff to set up and use them.
The second shipment was installed in July 2015 with more advanced training on spreadsheets and documents.
“The computers have been well received and there’s a strong demand for them,” said Trevor.
