  • Saab Expands Partnership with Akaer in Brazil

    Defence and security company Saab has acquired another 10 per cent of shares, reaching 25 per cent of stakes, in Akaer, one of the largest companies within development of aeronautical projects in Brazil. In conjunction with the expansion of the Saab-Akaer partnership, Akaer acquires assets of the shares of the Space and Defense Division (E&D) of the Brazilian optronic company Opto Eletrônica S.A.

  • Defence and security company Saab and Embraer Defense & Security have today inaugurated the Gripen Design and Development Network (GDDN) in Gavião Peixoto, in the state of São Paulo. The GDDN will be the hub for the Gripen NG technology development in Brazil for Saab and Embraer together with the Brazilian partner industries and institutions, AEL Sistemas, Atech, Akaer and the Brazilian Air Force, through its research department DCTA.

     
  • Defence and security company Saab has signed a contract with RIOgaleão, the concessionaire responsible for managing the Tom Jobim International Airport in Rio de Janeiro, to supply a common-use surface surveillance platform. The system increases the efficiency of aircraft operations on the ground and contributes to reduced flight delays. RIOgaleão, the second busiest international airport in Brazil, will be the first airport in Latin America to use this technology.

The new system will be used for the Swedish Air Force’s Gripen E fighter aircraft. The order value is approximately SEK 119 million. Deliveries will take place between 2022 and 2026.

    On 27 October 2014 Saab announced the conclusion of a contract with the Brazilian Federal Government for the development and production of 36 Gripen NG aircraft. The contract has now come into effect as all required conditions have been fulfilled. Today, the order value of approximately SEK39.3 billion is booked by Saab as order intake. Gripen NG deliveries to the Brazilian Air Force will be undertaken from 2019 to 2024.
