High quality support in focus On assignment with the Swedish Coast Guard

Did you know that Saab has a turnkey support and maintenance contract with the Swedish Coast Guard’s three Dash 8 aircraft? The support contract means that Saab on a daily basis has overall responsibility for technical maintenance and support of the aircraft, contributing to the Swedish Coast Guards ability to conduct maritime surveillance and rescue at sea.

The contract has been up and running since 2006 and includes fully integrated logistical support, maintenance and engineering services. All activities take place onsite at the Coast Guard main base in Sweden.

Saab´s commitment is also extended to include supporting the authority during international missions. Several times has Saab supported the Swedish Coast Guard's flight operations during international assignments, both in terms of support, maintenance and delivery of spare parts. In 2009, 2010 and 2013 during Frontex, and in 2010 and 2012/2013 during Operation Atalanta.

Proven when it really matters

From October 2012 to February 2013 the Swedish Coast Guard participated in Operation Atalanta - a joint civil-military EU collaboration whose aim is to deter pirate attacks against the UN World Food Programme's shipments of food aid in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean off Somalia's east coast. The Swedish Coast Guard participated in the civil part of the operation with a naval surveillance aircraft. The mission was to identify, document and report any suspected pirate activity. Saab built up a line-station in the Seychelles and offered support, maintenance and spare parts to enable the Swedish Coast Guard to perform their mission.

Rear Admiral Ronnie Willman, Head of the Swedish Coast Guard's flight operations, was pleased with Saab's contribution during Operation Atalanta.

“As usual, we were very pleased with the work being done and those who worked at the line-station knew just what was expected from us and what we wanted. Saab supported us brilliantly” says Ronnie Willman.

During the Frontex mission Triton in March this year, the Swedish Coast Guard flew to search for, and trace ships in distress in the Mediterranean. Saab equipped with tools and spare parts, crewed the operations station continuously to ensure that the technical maintenance and aeronautical support of the aircraft ran smoothly. Saab also supported with a 24/7 on-call support
