Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress and working together is success. This was the motto for the Nelson Mandela Day celebrations that were held at Saab head office on July 18, 2014.
With a vision to feed one thousand children in sixty-seven minutes, Magnus Lewis-Olsson, CEO of Saab South Africa, set a challenge for the entire company to band together and make one thousand hot dogs on the day.
Participants were divided into six teams to form a giant production line that saw rolls being cut and buttered, Vienna sausages popped in, and hot dogs wrapped and packed with sauce sachets, before they were delivered to two nearby children’s homes, Elandspoort Orphanage and Children on the Move.
Each team was assigned a colour to represent a section of the South African flag. The company’s staff members, who had dressed accordingly, united to form one massive flag in a final celebration of the man who led the fight to freedom in South Africa.
