Expodefensa 2015 concludes successfully for Saab

(Bogotá, December 2015) – The Swedish defense and security company Saab participated on the fifth version of Expodefensa in Bogotá, Colombia, where it presented Gripen and Erieye, among other products and solutions on military defense and civil security.

During the fair, where 190 other national and international companies participated, Saab presented systems and solutions for air, land and sea: a fighter aircraft, airborne early-warning, ground combat, and training and simulation. The stand exhibited scale models of Gripen and Erieye, and a simulator of the short-range air defense missile system, RBS 70 NG.

Members of the Military Forces and the Police, as well as officials of the Defense Ministry visited the stand, to become acquainted with the portfolio of products of aerospace technology and military defense that have positioned the company as world leader within the industry.

"We believe our participation in the fair was successful. Members of the Military Forces visited the stand, and showed interest on the high-end technology and cost-effectiveness of the products we exhibited," said Fredrik Gustafson, Saab's Vice President for Latin America Sales and Marketing.

General Alberto Mejía, commander of the Army, Henry Blain, chief of staff of the Military Forces, Brigadier General Gonzalo Cárdenas, chief of Strategic Planning of the Air Force, and Brigadier General Oswaldo Rivera, chief of Defense and Security of the Air Force, where some of the high-ranked military officers that visited Saab's stand, as well as Mariana Martínez, vice minister of Defense.

"We believe that security more than a necessity, it is a human right. At Saab, we have worked more than 75 on the development and constant improvement of technical systems and solutions that make it possible, and Expodefensa was a suitable scenario to present them in Colombia," said Gustafson.

The portfolio of cost-efficient and high technology products and systems for air, land and sea that was showcased at Expodefensa, included:

Gripen: The globally interoperable multi-role fighter capable of undertaking the full range of air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, including specialist roles such as intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance and electronic warfare. Gripen is easily deployable, with a very low maintenance and support footprint coupled with high reliability.

Erieye: Airborne early warning system for long-range surveillance and control. Erieye monitors airspace, borders and sea lanes to provide national security and assist in law-enforcement missions such as anti-smuggling, anti-piracy and protection of national resources.

RBS 70 NG: Very short-range air defence missile system to provide protection from 250 m out to 9 km for ground forces against airborne threats. The system is portable, easy to set up and operate, and provides 24-hour coverage in all climates.

BAMSE: A short-to medium-range ground based air defence missile system, designed to operate independently or in coordination with a complete defence network.

Giraffe: Surface based radar supporting ground and naval forces with a range of advanced air defence, air surveillance, weapons location and sense-and-warn capabilities. Different radar variants are tailored to different applications. Giraffe is famed for its minimal physical footprint and designed for mobility.

IDAS and ESTL: Electronic warfare systems providing protection for aircraft in diverse threat scenario, featuring intelligent sensors that react rapidly to detect and counter approaching missiles.
