Visit of the Belgian Ambassador to Saab's headquarters in Linköping, Sweden

Last week, H.E. Ms Francine Chainaye, the Belgian Ambassador in Sweden, was welcomed at Saab’s headquarters in Linköping by her Swedish counterpart, H.E. Ms Annika Hahn Englund, and by the Gripen for Belgium team.

On Monday 6 February, Saab was pleased to welcome H.E. Ms Francine Chainaye at its aeronautical headquarters and production site in Linköping. The Belgian Ambassador in Sweden was accompanied by the Flemish, Walloon and Brussels trade commissioners responsible for the promotion and support of international business in the respective Belgian regions.

In the context of the Belgian Air Combat Capability Successor Program to which Saab’s Gripen is a candidate, the Ambassador’s visit offered the ideal opportunity to introduce her to the state-of-the-art Gripen platform, to Saab’s unique approach in terms of Industrial Cooperation and to the potential it bears for Belgium in terms of return to society.

The delegation was given a first introduction by the Gripen for Belgium team with a complete briefing on Saab’s business and the Gripen programme. The officials also got the chance to visit the Gripen production line as well as the Gripen simulator center. The visit was concluded with a tour of the flight test department where H.E. Ms Francine Chainaye was given the opportunity to sit in a Gripen cockpit.

“We expect the Request for Governmental Proposal (RfGP) to be released by the Belgian Government in the near future, and the visit by the Belgian delegation gave us a good opportunity to present Gripen E, its capabilities and also our unique approach for future collaboration between Saab and the Belgian aeronautical industry,” says Per Alriksson, Saab’s Campaign Director Belgium.
