Medav CRS-Submarine is a system for tactical C-ESM tasks on submarines. Using Communications Electronic Support Measures (C-ESM) and Communication Intelligence (COMINT) technology in addition to Radar ESM (R-ESM) and Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) enhances the capability of situational awareness.

The CRS-Submarine system primarily serves three main applications: it can support the decision of surfacing with a so-called Comms Warning Receiver (CWR) for a few seconds of acquisition time below surface by means of a periscope-mounted antenna. Secondly, information of the electro-magnetic surroundings with a surface time of a few minutes to collect information – processing will be done during dive time. Thirdly, a complete picture of the surroundings including high DF (direction finding) accuracy and radio monitoring can be gathered during some minutes of surface time. Also here, the information is further processed during the dive phase.

One of the main benefits includes the ability to also evaluate communication signals (speech and data) in the operational theatre for reasons of situational awareness, force protection and improved mission effectiveness.

The system supports the tasks of identifying both platforms located nearby and their associated potential threats, by evaluation focused on communication signals.

Together with Radar ESM (R-ESM), an integrated solution comprising the R-ESM and C-ESM subsystems, the identification of emitters and related platforms can be improved. It also assists in detection of small objects which are invisible to radars or optical systems.

By this innovative approach, identification of platforms and related threats is significantly increased. Tailored solutions are possible, taking into account the objectives and operational
