Twelve Hungarian Gripen fighters have now returned to their original air base (Kecskemét Air Base) after completion of its renovation, reports origo.hu.
The Kecskemét Air Base was under renovation since May 2019 under the arrangements of the NATO Security Investment Programme and Hungary’s Modern Cities scheme. During the renovation period, Hungarian Gripens had to operate from Pápa, in western Hungary.
The runway of the airbase, lighting equipment, other operating areas and support infrastructure were renewed and upgraded during this period. According to Air force inspector Nándor Kilián, the Kecskemét Air Base will now function as an airport for both military and civilian use.
