Swedish Gripen fighters are participating at the Arctic Fighter Meet (AFM) 19 which starts August 19. The five-day exercise will be hosted at Bodø Air Base in Norway and will also see participation from the Finnish and Norwegian Air Forces.
The Arctic Fighter Meet exercise aims to train and familiarize the young and upcoming fighter pilots of the three nations with the intricacies of international air exercises. It also aims at developing interoperability amongst the participating nations.
The exercise is a part of the Nordic defense cooperation and prepares the participating pilots for conducting cross-border air-to-air operations. The pilots go through months of rigorous preparations before the exercise begins.
The multi-national exercise is a part of the Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO), and was first held in 2003. Hosted by the Norwegian air Force this year, the flight operations under this exercise will take place in Norwegian airspace.
The Arctic Fighter Meet ends on 23rd August 2019.
