Senior Biomedical and Product Engineer

The Land and Aerospace Biomedical and Product Engineer is responsible for providing  ongoing technical and system engineering oversight and support to JP 2060 Phase 3 specifically in the sustainment, refresh and survey and quote activities that may require acquisition of or integration with biomedical equipment. This will include the detailed design, identification and specification of the lower-level products that collectively become the system, analysis and definition of interfaces, and refinement of the architectural design The L&A Biomedical and Product Engineer will also provide intimate support to the Capture Manager to develop solutions for deployable health and infrastructure opportunities with a focus on the Priority Growth Areas as they relate to L&A. This may include bit not limited to; identifying and assessing market opportunities based on end-user interests and needs, customer opportunities and needs, market and industry trends and technology breakthroughs as they relate to the Priority Growth Areas. Support the process that decides whether to invest resources or not into the development of products for Land. It will also include the development of options for the expansion of existing projects in consultation with the engineering team on those projects or the development of solutions for new opportunities. The L&A Biomedical and Product Engineer will also, when required, support ongoing product development opportunities and R&D activities.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Ongoing provision of technical and engineering support to the Program Manager of JP 2060 Ph3 for the through life support, maintenance, sustainment, technical refresh, replacement, and RODUM investigations required under the 2060 Ph3 Support Contract or resulting from Survey and Quote activities.

  • Provision of technical and engineering support to the Business Development Director - Medical Solutions during the initial investigation of new opportunities and attend customer meetings where applicable.

  • Consult with other engineers working in the deployable health space to ensure reuse of designs and consistency with system architectural approaches across the deployable health product area.

  • Identify and develop requirements for systems, sub-systems and product components.

  • Conduct detailed trade studies, including the forecast and comparison of the performance of design alternatives and customer generated changes.

  • Prepare detailed tender level descriptions of proposed systems and solutions, including the identification and characterisation of the major architectural component and medical components.

  • Assure that any system solution complies with relevant regulatory and technical standards (e.g. product safety, human factors, environmental, TGA, etc.)

  • Technical support to JP 2060 Ph3 Acquisition.

  • Prepare briefing material to support tender review and approval processes.

  • JP2060-3 Field Hospital product management under the direction of the Product Family Manager, including Product Capability Plan Development

  • Support the preparation of bids including development of the initial design, work breakdown structures, level of effort and cost estimates.

  • Support in product development inclusive of coordination of requirements, conduct of market research, supplier engagement and coordination of engineering and other discipline input.

  • Plan and estimate work packages with schedules required to meet the project or tender timelines.

  • Provide support to project SEMs and the GEM in resource management of the biomedical engineers and medical specialists.

  • Where required, support marketing activities inclusive of preparation of presentations, brochures and attendance at trade shows and conferences.

Skills and Experience

  • Understanding of the lifecycles of defence projects.

  • Experience with Medical Equipment/Processes and Clinical Health.

  • Demonstrated experience in the full systems engineering lifecycle.

  • Demonstrated experience of engineering in a Defence Regulatory or equivalent environment (e.g. Land Material Safety Manual, Therapeutic Goods Administration, aerospace, transport, infrastructure).

  • Demonstrated planning and scheduling skills.

  • Experience in producing and reviewing technical documentation.

  • Be eligible to obtain and retain an NV1 Australian defence security clearance.

  • Technical report writing

  • Brief and report writing and experience in supporting bid writing.

  • Problem solving and analysis

  • Time management

  • Demonstrated familiarity with contemporary defence technologies

  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office applications especially Access, Excel and Word.

  • Experience in research and development, working with small R&D teams.

  • Broad experience in niche medical equipment technologies and ability to identify emerging trends or technology advancements as they relate to Deployable Health and Deployable Infrastructure

Educational Qualifications and Professional Memberships

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering or related technical discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience in the development of complex systems of a similar domain and magnitude.

  • Chartered Professional Engineer, CP Eng. Or ability to obtain.

  • Postgraduate engineering qualification.
