Hazardous Substances
The phasing out and avoidance of hazardous substances and materials is a key strategic area for Saab in order to remain competitive and to contribute to sustainable solutions in the future.
Certain substances are prioritised to be phased-out due to their environmental and health effects, which is both a challenge and opportunity for Saab. It is a matter of minimising technical and environmental risks as well as occupational health risks. The task is complex, but will help Saab to reduce dependencies on substances, processes and articles in the value chain that may be subject to future restrictions or avatilability limitations.
Saab has a structured approach to coordinate and follow-up the progress of substance phase-outs.
The fulfillment of the numerous legislative and customer requirements demands robust management, both related to chemical products and articles.
Saab has a specific hazardous substance list (GMS-0110), based on current chemical legislations, to specify internal and supplier requirements. The list enables both a proactive approach as well as correct substance content reporting.
Saab's environmental reporting and substance management is supported several digital tools. They support both compliance and customer communication of substance content and are integrated into product design systems.
