Environment Management
Saab strives to reduce its environmental impact through research and development collaborations aimed at environmentally conscious solutions. Through innovative, resource-efficient technologies, we reduce the environmental impacts throughout our value chain, which protects the planet and our competitiveness in a global market.
Our strategy
Our environmental strategy focuses on three main areas: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving resource efficiency and circularity and the phasing-out of hazardous substances. Saab's Environmental Strategy is an integral part of Saab’s overall Sustainability Strategy.
Saab's customers expect and get the best, not only when it comes to technical performance, but also related to the environmental performance and footprints of our products and services. Saab has developed and integrated methodologies and routines in our management system to ensure we meet the vast environmental regulatory compliance requirements, as well as the expectations of our customers and other stakeholders.
Saab recognises that the global environmental challenges we face require that we address challenges in the entire value chain, beyond the boundaries of our own operations. That means that environmentally conscious design and innovation is key to improve the fuel efficiency, durability, upgradability and flexibility of our products. Both our suppliers and customers are a part of this innovation journey through tight collaboration. We follow-up and improve our own environmental performance through target-setting, performance assessments and through internal and external auditing.
Environmental Management
Saab has integrated our environmental management system, which is compliant with ISO 14001, into our Global Management System (GMS), which also covers the areas of health and safety and quality. Our GMS includes routines and instructions to ensure full compliance, which regular internal and external audits also confirm. You can find all Saab certifications here.
Saab requires all employees to complete basic internal environmental training. The training covers all three of Saab's primary environmental focus areas: climate, circularity and resource efficiency as well as hazardous substances and is regularly renewed. Additional training is given to managers to give them the know-how to manage their area of responsibility and in the case of specific work tasks require specialised training.
Internal and external collaborations
The compliance complexities and challenges Saab faces are not unique to Saab. Therefore, we not only engage in close dialogue with customers and suppliers but also seek out collaboration with other businesses and organisations. Saab collaborates closely within several forums within the Aerospace and Defence sector in relation to, for example, transitioning to circular business models, the reduction of hazardous substances and transitioning to more sustainable fuels.
Saab external collaborations and partnerships are instrumental in ensuring that we are well-prepared for future requirements.
In addition, there are a number of internal working groups with the primary purpose to explore the feasibility of solutions to various environmental challenges, keep a close watch on future legislation, improving internal processes and to foster collaboration.
