    Since the unveiling of Gripen E in May 2016, the programme has seen great progress. Validation and verification activities such as tests in rigs and simulators have been performed and the ground test period is in full swing. The way model based development has been approached has been successful. "Power on" and engine starts are just two examples of important milestones that has been accomplished during the last months.

    The first batch of Gripen fighters for the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) was delivered in February 2011.

    The first batch of Gripen fighters for the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) was delivered in February 2011. Since then, the Gripen squadron at Wing 7 in Surat Thani has been up in the air a lot and employed at a number of different missions. Last week, a great milestone was reached when they passed 5000 flight hours with their twelve Gripen. It is an achievement made possible by a combination of many factors.

  • Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AEROTHAI), the Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) for Thailand, has selected defense and security company Saab to deploy an upgraded and expanded Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) system across Thailand. The ADS-B system will provide surveillance of flights over Thailand’s airspace in an expanded trial of the technology.

    Saab has had a terrific year. The Swedish Parliament voted overwhelmingly for the next generation of Gripen, following on the heels of the agreement with the Swiss Government. The Swedish Government have now announced that Sweden will buy 60 Gripen E fighter jets from Saab and given the approval to Swedish Armed Forces to place a contract with Saab, and we are expecting it early this year.
