Naval Construction Capability

After the acquisition of Kockums in 2014, Saab enhanced its naval capabilities with a wide arrange of products. Today, the Saab Kockums shipyard is working at full power designing, building and maintaining world-class naval solutions, making it one of the top suppliers in the market.

The company’s portfolio includes submarines with the air-independent Stirling system, surface vessels, mine countermeasures vessels and autonomous vehicles. The area’s unique expertise is in signature management, shock resistance and advanced stealth technology. Some specific solutions developed are A26 submarines or the Visby-class corvette.

Maritime Traffic Management

Saab provides a wide range of solutions designed to help monitor and safeguard the global logistic chain and maritime infrastructure. These solutions are designed to make this vital yet vulnerable supply chain as secure and efficient as possible, delivering full situational awareness at any scale.

Saab’s Marine Traffic Management Systems provide end-users such as Vessel Traffic Services (VTC) officers with the tools to maintain full operational awareness and provide VTS assistance to shipping in their area of responsibility, in accordance with IALA standards. The same underlying technology supports a broad range of operational uses, fulfilling the needs of organizations such as waterway management authorities, coast guards and border control organizations of all sizes.

Radar

The Sea Giraffe family of radars supports naval forces with a range of advanced air defence, air surveillance, weapons location and sense-and-warn capabilities. Different radar variants are tailored to different applications. Sea Giraffe has an exceptional range and operational flexibility designed to match the requirements of an extreme littoral environment.

With products like the Sea Giraffe 1X, Sea Giraffe 4A and Sea Giraffe AMB Saab covers from small to large vessels providing the awareness required to protect ships, frontiers and secure naval superiority.

Naval Laser Warning System NLWS & Tactic Submarine Systems ESM and ELINT

Saab’s naval EW solutions include a Naval Laser Warning System (NLWS) for surface ships as well as LIDAR (blue-green laser) warning sensor for use on submarines. It consists of a number of sensors together with a laser warning controller, providing vital information to the command team, enhancing their awareness and alerting them to the presence of laser activity.

The ESM family consists of a range of compact, high performance tactical ESM and ELINT systems, which meet today’s stringent operational EW requirements. The systems maintain signal analysis capability, even in dense signal environments. The parameters can be refined in the fine analysis mode, where intra-pulse modulation, scan patterns and inter-pulse analysis can be performed. ESM is suitable for installation on all surface and sub-surface platforms.
