Breaking the thought barrier

Whatever your mission in the air domain, there are potential barriers: technical, financial, logistical and geo-political. But it isn’t greater spending that will help you overcome these barriers, it’s smarter thinking.

Saab’s breakthrough thinking pushes boundaries, challenges conventions and develops intelligent solutions for the air domain. Solutions such as Gripen, the smart fighter, GlobalEye, the all-new AEW&C solution and digital air traffic solutions that will transform the airport business of tomorrow.

With Saab’s thinking edge you can break through your barriers and take control of your skies.

  • Defence and security company Saab, the Swedish Air Force and Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration have successfully implemented a revolutionary enhancement to the operational capabilities of the Gripen fighter.

  • Defence and security company Saab will scale new heights at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow (FIA2016) where we proudly present the all-new Saab Experience.

  • Over previous versions of the Gripen, Gripen E has a significantly improved avionics system. The capability to carry more weapons and the improved range performance, is possible by a more powerful engine and the ability to carry more fuel.

Stories

  • Saab’s Digital Tower Solution is the first remote digital air traffic solution in operation in the world. But what does it mean for an airport to be remote?  And what difference can it make?

  • With a new weapons system, enhanced protection for the pilot and longer service intervals MS20 gives a real boost to the entire Gripen platform.

  • Air forces all over the world are facing an increased number of international assignments, such as disaster relief and peace keeping missions. Add the everyday responsibility to maintain national sovereignty and it’s easy to see that new requirements are put into play.

  • Despite ultra-modern technology, it’s still very difficult to find a submarine that’s hiding. However the probability of detection will be markedly increased by employing a maritime patrol aircraft, MPA. With speed, reach and persistence, combined with the latest on-board sensors, such platforms will always make life uncomfortable for even the most experienced of submarine captains.

  • Saab’s new airborne surveillance system GlobalEye can be put to use in a number of different ways within a society. It can be used in case of a natural disaster, a terror attack or, as this example illustrates, to discover and interrupt drugs smugglers making their way into a country.

  • Smart has become synonymous with Gripen, we take a look to see just how this has happened.

  • Advances in their ability to detect both UAVs and stealth-cloaked aircraft have placed Saab’s Giraffe surface radars in a class of their own.

  • Seen by many as a series of giant leaps in innovation the story of flight is, in fact, one of fantastic evolution. More than anyone the Gripen team at Saab know this. It is evolutionary thinking that has kept the Gripen system more than one step ahead.

  • Pilots likes nothing better than having the latest fighter, but few pilots ever fly a plane capable of evolving to meet an uncertain future.

Almost 70 years old, and still going strong! Out of some 660 aircraft this is the only Saab J 29 Tunnan still flying. Fascinating fighter fans wherever she goes, her swept wing design and top speed of 1060 km/h helped position Saab as one of the leading companies in the fighter production business. This #Saabinthesky image of was taken by Peter Brauns. Keep tagging your Saab aircraft with #Saabinthesky and we’ll pick our favourites and share them in our social channels. With full photo credit to you of course. #aviation #avgeek #airforce #military
